Mawanella, Kegalle

Mawanella, located in the Kegalle District of the Sabaragamuwa Province in Sri Lanka, is a town rich in culture and history. The town spans an area of approximately 118 sq km and has a population of around 111,727 residents. Positioned along the Colombo-Kandy road, Mawanella serves as a crucial link between these two major cities. The town's elevation ranges from 180 to 260 metres above sea level, and it experiences a tropical evergreen climate with temperatures ranging between 22 to 35 degrees Celsius and significant annual rainfall, primarily from the Southwest Monsoon.

Mawanella is known for its diverse population, comprising mainly Sinhalese and Muslims, with small Tamil and other minority communities. The economy is primarily driven by agriculture, with key crops including rice, tea, rubber, pepper, and various spices. Traditional handicrafts, especially pottery and brassware, are also significant economic activities here.
